There's a first for everything and on Friday night, the first game played on the new turf at Aldrich Field was something to remember. Jeff Aylward connected with Alex Heimes for a two-yard touchdown pass in the second overtime to lift the Thunderbolts to a 14-7 win over Omaha Gross.

Pius used their running game to take an early 7-0 lead. The Thunderbolts went 87 yards in 14 plays to score on the game's opening drive.

Lincoln Pius X running back Taylor Kriefels led all rushers with 107 yards on 23 carries. Defense dominated the game from start to finish as it was tough to get yardage on the ground or through the air.

The passing game for Omaha Gross came to life in the final six minutes of the game as quarterback Danny Mlynczak was 5-for-6 in the scoring drive that tied the game late.

It was a memorable way to begin a new season on a new field surface for the Thunderbolts.
