Aurora's 24-game winning streak was in danger. Down 12 to perennial power McCook. But that's when Trevor Thorell took over for the Huskies. Thorell turned in a pair of spectacular special teams returns in a 22-point swing that propelled Aurora to a 43-25 win.
Trailing late in the second quarter, Thorell fieled a punt and weaved through several McCook defenders for a 44-yard score. On the kickoff to start the second half, Thorell nearly went 100 yards on a return. Aurora head coach Randy Huebert said those two plays swung the momentum of the game.
"Trevor is a dangerous guy back there. He can catch the ball well and has great vision. He had some nice blocks, too," Huebert said.
Once Aurora had the lead, the Huskies poured it on McCook. Tyson Broekemeier threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score.
McCook was led by Jake Schlager who had a 70-yard touchdown run.
Aurora improves to 2-0 and extends its winning streak to 25 games.
