Ravenna has defeated Aquinas Catholic 45-40 to win the Class C2 championship. The Lady Jays trailed the majority of the game, but the fourth quarter belonged to them. Ravenna took advantage of some key miscues by Aquinas Catholic.

The Lady Jays were down 14-5 at the end of the first quarter, and kept fighting their way back.

Aquinas Catholic was outscored 16-4 in the 4th quarter.

When it looked like the fight was out of Ravenna, the Lady Jays proved otherwise. Ravenna (27-0) came to the championship game after defeating Tri County 51-39 on Thursday, and then downing Cambridge 62-38 on Friday.

Another big factor for the Lady Jays was the fact that the Ravenna bench came in strong when they needed them to do so. Ravenna had 10 bench points, compared to 0 for Aquinas Catholic.

Although the Lady Jays shot just 14 of 48 from the field, Ravenna scored 15 points off of 22 turnovers committed by Aquinas Catholic.

Ravenna also connected at the free throw line, hitting 12 of the 18 times the Lady Jays were at the line.

Aquinas Catholic was led by Katie Holoubek with 21 points. Mary Klosterman scored 9, Amy Kreikemeier with 7 and Megan Engel with 3.

Mallory Irvine led Ravenna with 10 points, Emily Achtenberg had 9, Maggie Matejka and Jesica Markvicka each scored 8 and Taryn McDowell scored 5.

Matejka and Markvicka led Ravenna with two 3-point field goals.

Katie Holoubek went 10/19 from the field for Aquinas Catholic.

The win for Ravenna marks their second state championship since the Lady Jays won the C2 title back in 2006.
