Danielle Lemek can't drive on the road, but she can drive on the golf course. "Some tournaments I'm on the first tee and I hit and drive and they're like, 'holy smokes how old are you again?'" Lemek said.
The 15-year-old hits the ball 240 yards off the tee, one of the main reasons she's among the top amateur golfers in the state. "Yeah, it is kind of crazy since I'm only 15," Lemek admits. "I guess I have the length that the other girls do and I just sprung early."
Having recently won the Nebraska girls match play championship, along with finishing second at the amateur stroke-play tournament, Lemek is already enjoying a successful summer. The reigning Class C champion prefers high school golf, but says it's during the summer months when she sees the biggest improvement in her game. "I just go out to these tournaments not think, 'Oh my gosh I playing against College kids'" Lemek joked. "I don't care how old they are, I could play against a four-year-old that's amazing like me and -- age doesn't matter."
Still several months away from getting her driver's license, Lemek's had to ask her parent's to escort her around the state. "The support is great, my family is a great support in the golf field." Lemek said.
