After seven years as the head coach of the Wakefield Trojans, Justin Smith is the new head coach at Lincoln Northeast. Smith takes over for Dave Svehla, who resigned his position earlier this year.

In his seven seasons with Wakefield, Smith compiled a 56-17 record, and undefeated records and state championships in 2006 and 2007.

In 2008, the Rockets went 3-6. Lincoln Northeast has four returning starters on offense and defense. Tyler Francis returns for his senior season as quarterback with the Rockets.

The Rockets open up the season August 27, hosting Omaha Creighton Prep.
