A valiant Crete comeback attempt fell just short on Friday night, as the Cardinals fell to Omaha Skutt 20-13.
A Brock Sherman five-yard touchdown run brought Crete to within 20-13 just minutes into the fourth quarter, giving the Cardinals a chance.
With under five minutes to play, Crete's Colton Mach forced a fumble by Christian Dudzik, and Sherman pounced on it. Then on fourth down, quarterback Derek McGinnis completed a 16-yard pass to Ben Muff to keep the Cardinal drive alive.
The drive would stall, but Crete would get the ball back with under :20 seconds remaining. McGinnis's desparation pass attempt to Muff was intercepted by Dudzik, and Omaha Skutt escaped from Crete with a 20-13 win.
Omaha Skutt advances to take on Blair, who knocked off Waverly on Friday night 24-6.
