Top-ranked and defending Class B champion Aurora took the drama away early, rolling to a 28-7 victory over Adams Central Saturday night before some 3,000 fans at Aurora High.

The Huskies (12-0) roared onto the field and into the end zone on a 39-yard run by James Van Pelt, then scored on an 11-yard run by Nate Suck and a 33-yard pass to Suck to speed to a 22-0 lead in the second quarter.

"We wanted to get a better start than the last time and we put a lot of emphasis on getting going soon," said Aurora quarterback Tyson Broekemeier, who threw for 233 yards and two touchdown, and also rushed for a touchdown.

Three weeks ago, Adams Central jumped to a 9-0 lead before Aurora scratched back for a 19-9 victory. Last week, in the playoffs, McCook took early control before the Huskies rallied.

"We were maybe too excited the last time, and this time, we just concentrated on the game, the plays we had to make, and we were a lot calmer about it," Broekemeier said.

Aurora scored in seven plays to open the game. After recovering an Adams Central fumble, Aurora drove 72 yards in six plays, including a 40-yard shovel pass from Broekemeier to Suck, to jump ahead 15-0.

"They were bringing more people to the line, so we passed, and we've been able to count on that a lot this year," said Aurora coach Randy Huebert. "Getting the turnovers and making the big plays on offense was really big for us."

Aurora's Andrew Rodriguez, a Husker lineman recruit, recovered an Adams Central fumble at the Patriots 35-yard line. Four plays later, Broekemeier hit Suck on a 33-yard touchdown pass with 6:17 left in the first half.

Aurora made it three straight scores off turnovers when Kyle McCarthy recovered a fumble and, eight plays later, Broekemeier scored on a 1-yard sneak.

Adams Central (9-2) finally answered on an 18-yard pass from Matt Overmiller to Zach Hunt. The two hooked up on a 45-yard pass earlier in the drive.

"We had to get more and we just came up short or lost the ball too often," said Adams Central coach Bill Carlin.

Adams Central drove to the Aurora 3-yard line but couldn't score early in the third quarter, and Aurora's Matthew Grosshans intercepted a pass to stop another Patriot drive.
