York and Geneva Combine to Collect 16,295 Pounds of Food in Can-Care-a-Van

The 10/11 Can Care-a-Van is an annual food drive which takes place in communities across Nebraska and northern Kansas each year. The Can Care-a-Van collects canned food, non-perishables, and monetary donations. All of the food collected in your community stays in your community.

In Geneva, the 10/11 Sports Team helped collect donations from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The total amount of 8,750 pounds of food was donated in a town of 2,000. 10/11 Sports Director Kevin Sjuts says his goal was 3,500 pounds of food.

Some groups to highlight was the Fillmore County Hospital who brought in 1,300 pounds of food, Farm Bureau and its members brought in 960 pounds of food, and the Geneva State Bank brought in 469 pounds of food.

In York, 10/11's Owen Jensen, Kim Eiten and Rudy Mezzy collected food at the Wal-Mart. The community of York collected a grand total of 7,545 pounds of food, with the York Postal Drive bringing in 4,210 pounds.

Both communities combined to bring in 16,295 pounds of food to help local food pantries. Thanks to all who came out this week to donate canned goods to make the 25th Annual 10/11 Can Care a Van a huge success!
