IF YOU'D LIKE TO DONATE MONEY TO THE WOMEN'S HOMES, YOU CAN VISIT:
"That Takes the Cake" is the name of the second annual fundraiser for Saint Gianna's homes, which house women in need.
The Saint Gianna women's homes are run by the Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska. Catholic Social Services subsidize their rent and utilities while providing food, counseling and job placement. In addition to a grant, Saint Gianna's homes depend on private donations. "That Takes the Cake" pays for roughly 10 to 15 percent of the yearly costs for the home.
Dozens of cakes were made and sold for the event. In addition to the baked goods made by volunteers, a silent auction and judging contest was held for cakes made by professional cake makers.
Cakes were donated from individual bakers and restaurants for the bidding. Last year the event raised around $20,000, and this year they hope to raise around $30,000.
