Bo Pelini Foundation gives $25,000 toward breast cancer research at UNMC Eppley Cancer Center
When Husker fans attended the Big Red Breakfast in Omaha on Friday, Nov. 4, they had more to cheer about than just the Huskers’ big win over top 10 team Michigan State. That’s because the Bo Pelini Foundation, which co-sponsors the Big Red Breakfasts along with TD Ameritrade, presented a $25,000 check made payable to the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center. The check was presented by Connie Jamrog, Executive Director of the Bo Pelini Foundation (BPF). Assistant Coach Rich Fisher addressed the crowd of more than 260 after the presentation.
Since Bo and Mary Pat Pelini formed the Bo Pelini Foundation in 2008, the Foundation has given more than $375,000 to charities and individuals which fit the BPF mission. A total of $200,000 has been given to local medical facilities for breast cancer research and care, including a total of $100,000 to the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center over the past four years.
Coach Bo Pelini said the Foundation is working toward a cure for the disease that took the life of his mother. “We are hopeful that these funds will enable the Eppley Cancer Center in Omaha to provide cutting edge research, treatment and ultimately a cure for breast cancer.”
'With one out of two people developing cancer in their lifetimes,” Dr. Cowan said, “cancer research is important to every one of us. Support from the Bo Pelini Foundation helps in the fight against breast cancer at the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center, Nebraska's only NCI (National Cancer Institute)-designated cancer center. I can't thank Coach Pelini and his Foundation enough for their continued support of research at the Eppley Cancer Center.”
