Team and coaches wear orange laces to help a two-year-old boy.

The Boone Central colors are cardinal and white, but for today orange is proudly displayed.

"Orange is the color for leukemia awareness," said Boone Central Assistant Girls Basketball Coach Justin DeWitt whose two-year-old son Cooper was diagnosed with the painful disease.

"Our doctor ran a standard blood test. His immunity levels were off the charts so they instantly told us to go to Children's Hospital," said DeWitt.

The players wear orange shoe laces, students and coaches dawn ribbons and fans display signs, all in an effort to show how a small community sticks together.

"It's been amazing. The community support and the players and staff, what they've done. I've received great letters and notes. They give you strength along the way," said DeWitt.

"We are going to get rubber wristbands that say fight for a child with leukemia and sell them and give the money to the DeWitts for their hospital bills,"said Boone Central Cheerleader Brittany Korth

Another student praised his community. "It shows what a great community we have and it's just a great place to live."

Cooper has the most important doctors appointment of his life next week, a bone marrow test. the De Witt family and the entire community hopes and prays for good news.

"We'll get an outlook for the next 9 months if we have good news he will have a three year treatment and probably recover fine. If not it will be a tougher nine months for him. It sounds like he's making good progress so far," said DeWitt.

Orange-- it's one of the brightest colors in the spectrum. Those close to the De Witt's hope it brings a bright future for little Cooper.
