Local persons living with HIV/AIDS will benefit from the Hastings College PHIVE-O’s (Peer HIV Education Organization) annual Hastings community Trick or Treat for NAP (Nebraska AIDS Project).
The event is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 27, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Hastings College Health Center (843 N Turner Ave.).
During this annual event, Hastings College students join PHIVE-O members to dress in Halloween costumes and canvass the community for much-needed non-perishable food items, paper goods, and personal hygiene items. The community of Hastings has come to anticipate this visit, and traditionally, the donations are generous.
Community members and other volunteers are welcome to join the students in the effort. Volunteers are needed to help with publicity for the event, as well as to participate in the trick or treating.
Anyone whose residence is not visited by the trick or treaters on Oct. 27 can bring pantry item donations to the Hastings College Health Center on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
The NAP office in Kearney will distribute collected items.
