The American Heart Association's Heart Walk in Lincoln is this Saturday.
When Craig Gies of Sampson Construction was asked to co-chair the event this year, he thought it would be a great opportunity for him and the company to pay it forward to an organization that touches so many lives.
He had no idea though how personal the request would become.
About two weeks ago Gies underwent emergency bypass surgery. Doctors told him he had 100% blockage in his arteries.
Since his own experience, Gies is more supportive than ever in helping prevent and diagnose cardiovascular disease, condition that claims the lives of one person every 38 seconds, according to the American Heart Association.
"The Heart Walk has a lot of educational information that day. So people coming out and seeing it would be a great support. And also if they are able to help raise money and get closer to our goal as far as funding the research and the important efforts that are done," said Gies.
His company, Sampson Construction is a leading donator for the Heart Walk.
The donation goal this year is $175,000
