From City of Kearney:
The Kearney Volunteer Fire Department is implementing a unique memorial honoring the 343 firefighters and first responders that perished 10 years ago in New York City on September 11, 2001.
In honor of our fallen comrades of New York City, the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department will be displaying outdoor memorial frames bearing the names of individual firefighters that died during the World Trade Center attacks on 9/11.
The frames will be on display at Station 1 from Monday, September 5 through Wednesday, September 14. The public is invited to visit the display and pay respects.
Proceeds from the program are provided to a scholarship fund for the children of fallen firefighters and first responders of the New York Fire Department. The fund is called the Bravest Scholarship Fund and it is managed by the Uniformed Fire Officers Association of New York City, one of the unions representing firefighters in the NYFD.
This memorial program was initiated by and coordinated through the Lakeville Minnesota Fire Department and is being instituted in a collaborative fashion by fire departments all over the country.
