It's a very Husker Christmas for some lucky kids.
Lighthouse put on a Christmas shopping event. Kids got a shopping trip to Wal-Mart accompanied by Husker athletes. And Wednesday night, there were plenty of smiling faces.
Zijada Dzanic is one of 88 kids Christmas shopping.
Zijada tells 10/11, "They said that they picked me because I was a really good student and they really enjoy having me."
Zijada's hard work earned her a $100 gift card to Wal-Mart. Which she got to spend with her brother, sister and Husker football players Lance Thorell, Steven Osborne and Jase Dean.
Zijada says, "I like shopping with them! It's just amazing that they're football players and now I get to go to school and say that I spent my time with football players.
Twelve-year-old Almira adds, "And soon, when they're famous in the future, we can tell that we shopped with them at Wal-Mart and it will be really cool."
Lighthouse picked the kids, while former Husker and Kansas City Chief football player Eric Warfield raised money to make it possible.
Bill Michener is the executive director of Lighthouse. He says, "This is totally the brainchild of Eric Warfield, he just wants to help young people and give them a happy Christmas."
It's something the student athletes were happy to take part in.
Senior Defensive back Lance Thorell says, "I think it's a good cause, just come out and help these kids shop and get them some toys or hopefully somethings that they wouldn't have got this Christmas, it's just a good cause."
One of the items on Zijada's list, shampoo.
Osborne says, "I recommend the coconut"
Zijada says, "It smells amazing."
Dean says, "This one smells better."
Zijada says, "No it doesn't"
It was also the players job to keep a running tally of how much they spent and make sure the group got their picture taken with Santa.
This is the first time Lighthouse had the Christmas event.
