Do you like green eggs and ham? LSO presents a fully-staged orchestra adaptation of the Dr. Seuss classic Green Eggs & Ham on Sunday, October 23, at 2 PM at O’Donnell Auditorium (50th & Huntington). Come early from 1-2 PM to enjoy pre-concert activities for the whole family.
Featuring actors Michael Boudewyns and Sara Valentine and soprano Kimberly Schroeder, Green Eggs & Ham is a one-hour concert that revolves around classic character Sam-I-Am. Other music on the program includes Rossini’s Barber of Seville Overture, the Toy Symphony, and excerpts from Haydn’s “Surprise” Symphony.
“Both the Toy Symphony and Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham feature extraordinarily playful characters presented with inventiveness and theatricality, and a variety of delightful musical styles played by LSO,” said Michael Boudewyns. “It's a thrill to be part of a concert where everyone (audience young and old, musicians, conductor, composer and performers) all love Dr. Seuss.”
Since 2004 Michael Boudewyns has been a frequent guest artist with the Philadelphia Orchestra’s popular Family Concerts, presenting vaudeville-inspired performances of classic stories for young audiences. Michael is a graduate of the Professional Theatre Training Program at the University of Delaware, and is co-founder of www.ReallyInventiveStuff.com. Kimberly Schroeder has extensive performance and choreography credits, and has toured the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, and Canada with the Missoula Children’s Theatre. She is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Dance and Vocal Music programs. Sara Valentine’s work includes the orchestras of Philadelphia, Charlotte, Richmond, New Haven, Milwaukee, and the Shakespeare festivals of Colorado, Philadelphia, North Carolina and Maine. She is a co-founder of www.ReallyInventiveStuff.com, and a member of Theatre faculty at Tulane University.
