From the United Way:
The 72nd Annual Meeting of the United Way of South Central Nebraska held on February 19, 2013. Executive Director, Michele Henke announced the fundraising goal of $451,000 was exceeded.
The final total raised for the 2012-2013 Campaign was just over $457,000 in pledges and donations.
“We are excited to share this with the United Way supporters as this is the highest amount that has been raised,” said Henke. “Campaign volunteers, agency representatives and United Way Board of Directors worked diligently to exceed all expectations of this campaign. We are thankful for everyone’s dedication and support.”
Awards were also given at the Annual Meeting.
Five Points Bank received the Community Partner Award. This award recognizes a company or individual that demonstrates a level of commitment unprecedented by any others to the United Way.
Dean Poppe received the Inez C. Peterson Citizenship Award that recognizes individuals with outstanding dedication to the community and the United Way. Dean has managed the employee campaign at Dutton-Lainson for almost 40 years.
Kari Fluckey received Honorary Board Membership for her leadership and dedication to the United Way. Kari has served on the United Way Board and is the manager of the Eaton Corporation employee campaign.
“All three of these recipients have a passion to create lasting change within our community and they all give, advocate, and volunteer. This is the true spirit of Living United,” said Henke.
Several businesses were recognized for their outstanding employee campaigns. The Top 10 Giving employee campaigns were: Mary Lanning Healthcare, Dutton Lainson, Five Points Bank, T-L Irrigation, Hastings Public Schools, Hastings Utilities, Paperworks Packaging, Thermo King, Eaton Corporation and Centennial Plastics.
Businesses that raised $5000 or more were recognized for their accomplishments, those businesses were: Centennial Plastics, Flowserve, McDermott & Miller, Paperworks Packaging, Oakeson, Steiner & Lindsteadt, Pinnacle Bank, Hastings Utilities, Eaton Corporation, Thermo King and Pepsi-Cola Bottling/Boyd’s Vending.
The United Way of South Central Nebraska gives special thanks to Terry Anstine, 2012-2013 Campaign Chairman and Tamera Schlueter, 2012 United Way Board President, and to all the campaign leaders for their conscientious endeavors to make 2012 a very successful year.
Looking ahead, Abe Tamayo was welcomed as the 2013 Board of Directors President. 2014 Campaign Chair will be Matt Baack, Vice Chairs are Jay and Barbara Landell.
