A walk promoting mental health awareness will be held September 30, from noon to 2:00, on the Lincoln Regional Center campus, 801 West Prospector Place, in Lincoln.

Activities include a walk through the arboretum or on the nature path, lawn games, entertainment by Sweeney Stearley, caricature drawings, and lunch at guest expense. The first 200 registrants will receive a t-shirt commemorating the 2nd Annual Walk, courtesy of Trilogy Integrated Resources, which developed the DHHS Network of Care.

The walk is a prelude to Mental Illness Awareness Week, October 2-8, which calls for support for treatment and recovery from mental illnesses.

One in four adults experiences a mental health problem in any given year. One in 17 lives with a serious, chronic mental illness.

“Many people in our community are directly affected by mental illnesses,” said Scot L. Adams, director of the Division of Behavioral Health at the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. “The good news is that treatment does work and recovery is possible.”
