The University of Nebraska's Foundation has exceeded its ambitious fundraising goal of raising $1.2 billion more than two years ahead of schedule.
Foundation officials say $1.21 billion had been raised for research and scholarships on the university's four campuses by the end of April.
The fundraising campaign that began in 2005 is slated to run through 2014.
NU President J.B. Milliken says the fundraising campaign will help make the university stronger than ever.
The money raised so far includes $416 million for construction, $383 million for academic programs and $60 million for recruiting and retaining top faculty.
