Nebraskans Receive Emergency Preparedness Awards

Nebraska Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy has announced the state's 2011 "Be Prepared" Awards.

Sheehy, who serves as the Nebraska Director of Homeland Security, presented the honors during National Preparedness month. The award honors Nebraskans who volunteer their time and energy to help communities prepare.

The Citizen Corps Council of the Year award went to the Scotts Bluff County Citizen Corps Council.

Chandra Petersen of Arlington received the 2010 Local Hero Award. The Excellence in Community Preparedness award was presented
to Fabiola Dimas of Crete, who created an All-Hazards Preparedness
Program. The Citizen Corps Partner Program of the Year was presented to Shelly Penner with Mid Plains American Red Cross.

Individual awards went to Geraldine Thomas and David Duncan of Omaha and Stan Coleman of Grand Island.
