Private donations and funding from an environmental trust will help fund a discovery trail along the Platte River west of Grand Island.
The Platte River Discovery Trail project is a three-year initiative
made possible in part with a first-year grant of $42,000 from the
Nebraska Environmental Trust and support from other donors.
The new trail will build on the existing nature and visitor
center's network of hiking trails operated by the Crane Trust along
the Platte River. It will be developed in stages with two dozen
interpretive stations and trailside exhibits.
The discovery trail will start south of the Alda exit on
Interstate 80. Visitors will see how researchers study wildlife and
manage habitat.
