Getting the word out about Nebraska's number one industry is the goal of one group of women.

It's called Common Ground. Thursday, more volunteers learned how to get their pro-ag message out to those who may not know a lot about where their food comes from.

The conference was the first Common Ground event for Sharon Portenier. She said even in her small town of Harvard, knowledge of farm life is sometimes lacking.

"We have a sixth grade daughter that attends Harvard Public Schools and it's really sad how little her classmates know about what happens when she goes home at night on the farm," she said.

"We as farm woman can visit with woman who might be two or three or four generations removed from the farm who don't know anything about farm life," said volunteer Dawn Caldwell. "We can talk to them about how their food is grown, where it comes from and what we do in our daily lives to help get that food to their home."

Caldwell said volunteers come from all different kinds of agriculture backgrounds, from animal to crop to organic.
