The People's City Mission collected around five thousand pairs of shoes for its annual 'One Day without Shoes' event.
Pastor Tom Barber says the mission has collected the most shoes in the event's history- about five thousand pair.
Barber says a nine thousand dollar donation from Cornhusker Bank will be used to buy more shoes for those who need them throughout the year.
On Friday guests of the People's City Mission were invited to choose a pair of shoes from those donated. Shoes of all styles ranging from slippers to heels to athletic shoes were available to the shoppers.
