With 854 Participants, 67 Teams. and $36,033 raised, this year's Relay for Life at UNL is off to a running start.

The annual event brings together cancer survivors, supporters, family, friends, neighbors and strangers to raise money to fight the deadly disease.

Today's warm weather has made the camping experience of the event more enjoyable for many.

The relay is a celebration of sorts with all the pomp and pageantry of a major sporting event because for some, just being well enough to walk a lap around a track is a major athletic event.

Athletes of all fitness levels joined the fight for lives through fundraising for the American Cancer Society. The organization uses the funds for cancer research...working to save lives and allow more people to celebrate more birthdays by staying well.

Some also attend the event to pay tribute to those who have been saved from cancer, others use the event to remember the lost in hopes that someday there will be a cure for this deadly disease.
