For many, it's tradition to give back during the holiday season.

But Sunday, runners in the capital city went one step further to help animals in need.

It's the 10th annual Holiday Run.

Over 400 runners took part in the benefit 5K, raising around $4,000 to support the Capital Humane Society and its adoption programs.

Participants say it feels good to get some exercise with their dogs while supporting other pets still looking for a good home.

Humane Society Director Bob Downey says the new Pieloch Adoption Center is on track to open June 1st of next year.

He says it will make a big difference for homeless pets in the capital city.
