Salvation Army Opens Warming Center in Hastings

We've seen the temps dip lately and the past few days have been especially cold, but some people living on the streets have no where to go during those cold snaps.

Which is why the Salvation Army in Hastings has set up a warming center.

On a Tuesday afternoon in Hastings when its nearly fifty degrees outside, there is not much demand for this warming center , but when the temps dips the Salvation Army says its a different story.

"Some people just come in for a while to sit down enjoy some company and warm up," said Major Abe Tamayo.

Getting out of the elements is crucial, especially when temps dip into the single digits outside.

"Some people have no where to go to warm up and be safe from the elements," said Tamayo.

Thats where the warming center comes in, and the Salvation Army says everyone is welcome.

In addition to getting a hot drink and out of the elements, many people have been asking for coats, gloves, and scarves.

"They know they are going out into the cold with more warmth on their body than they had when they came in," said Major Ronda Tamayo.

Helping someone in need during the holiday season.

"It warms my heart and I know I'm helping someone that is need during the Christmas season be warm, I don't like them to be cold out there on the streets," said Ronda Tamayo.
