The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is seeking volunteers to collect cans, bottles and other recyclable materials at its final home football game.

The 2011 Game Day Challenge is an annual, nationwide competition among universities to see who can reduce, reuse and recycle the most waste during a home football game.

More than 75 volunteers gathered about 6,800 pounds of recyclables during the Oct. 29 Game Day Challenge.

Volunteers collected cans, bottles and other recyclable materials from
tailgaters before the game, and picked up plastic bottles left behind after the game.

Organizers say people who want to volunteer should send an email to recycling@unl.edu.
