Veterans were honored with Valentine's Day cards, prime rib, and more today at the Grand Island Veterans Administration Clinic.
Volunteers teamed up to cook and serve the steaks to Clinic resident veterans and their guests in gratitude for their service, and as part of National Salute Week. World War II veteran Clarence Mabon says it's better that the usual hospital food: "This is real special. For Valentine's Day they have the prime rib one day a year, and it's Valentine's Day."
The Elks Club of Hastings also pitched in with free sandwiches and a chocolate fondue fountain for veterans and Clinic staff, plus Valentine's Day cards made by local elementary school students.
