Benjamin Schoenkin


Benjamin Schoenkin is a content producer for the 10/11 NOW news team.

Prior to beginning his role as a producer, Benjamin interned at 10/11 in the spring of 2016.

Benjamin graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with High Distinction. He was also honored as a Superior Scholar at UNL for his academic achievements and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

At the University, he produced and delivered newscasts on KRNU and KRNU2. Benjamin also started his own public affairs politics show on KRNU2 titled "Cornhusker State Politics and Beyond." The show covered local, state, and national politics. He interviewed political science professors and students live on the show. Additionally, he reported for the Daily Nebraskan in 2015, often covering state legislature news. Benjamin won a UNL Publications Board First Place Award for Outstanding Achievement in News Event Coverage for an article he wrote for the Daily Nebraskan on a Sen. Deb Fischer speech about Iran.

At the Midwest Journalism Conference in 2016, Benjamin received the prestigious Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association Jack Shelley Scholarship, as well as an Eric Sevareid Award of Merit in the radio hard feature category for a story on a bill in the Nebraska Legislature.

Ben is very interested in politics and enjoys covering political news. He can often be found researching the next potential legislation at the state legislature.

From December 2015 to March 2017, he was one of two student governors at the national level of the National Broadcasting Society-Alpha Epsilon Rho, helping to plan annual conventions and interacting with chapters at universities across the country.

In his free time, Benjamin enjoys watching his favorite NFL team, the Green Bay Packers. He grew up on the Upper East Side of New York City and has lived in Evanston, Illinois. Benjamin enjoys visiting the local communities around Nebraska and learning more about the state.
