Annette Bushaw is the principal at Saratoga Elementary School in Lincoln and she was honored to bestow the January Golden Apple Award upon Julie McNeil, "Julie is really special because she's been at Saratoga, she's invested in the students and she cares for them deeply."
The award, sponsored by Doane University College of Education, is given each month of the school year to an educator having a outstanding impact in our local schools.
Mrs. McNeil has spent the last 20 years of her teaching career at
Saratoga and it's quite obvious that over those past two decades, she has developed quite a love for the Saratoga family. Julie exclaims, "They're awesome. They make me happy to come to work everyday, they're my 20 best friends."
This Lincoln High School graduate has some pretty sharp cookies in her class and one of them is six-year-old Kaedence Crouse. She's very young, but she's old enough to know that she has a very deserving teacher, "I told my parents that I wanted Mrs. McNeil to win a trophy and it actually happened." So obviously, Kaedence was excited to hear that her premonition had become a reality.
It's quite apparent that Mrs. McNeil has a special relationship with each of her first graders, "I enjoy teaching my first graders how to become great children of the world."
