LINCOLN, Neb. – A 17-year-old inmate made an effort to escape custody while being transported back to the Lancaster Youth Services Center.
The female inmate was being transported on Oct. 10 when she began to tear plastic from the cage separating the front and back seats of the transport vehicle.
She also began to kick multiple windows out, and bow one of the side doors.
When the driver found a safe place to stop, the inmate crawled through the back window, which was broken out.
The officer who was driving the vehicle ran around to the back and began to struggle with the inmate, when a passerby jumped in and helped.
Eventually, Lincoln Police and the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office came to assist, and the inmate was taken back to the detention center.
