Authorities identify Nebraska man killed in fiery crash

SPRINGFIELD, Neb. — Authorities have identified the man killed in a traffic accident north of Springfield Wednesday night as 44-year-old Aaron Scholting of Louisville.

Sarpy County Sheriff investigators said Scholting died in a rollover accident. Emergency crews were called to Highway 50 just north of Fairview Road shortly after 5:30.

Investigators say Scholting was southbound on Highway 50. Wtinesses say he applied the brakes and began to slide. The pickup truck went across the southbound lanes, over the median, into the northbound lanes and crashed into a ditch.

Deputies said Scholting was thrown from the vehicle and pinned underneath it. The truck then caught fire.

Scholting was pronounced dead at the scene.

Northbound Highway 50 traffic was diverted for approximately 3 hours.
