Authorities identify victims involved in Omaha crash

OMAHA, Neb. - Authorities have identified the man killed in a traffic accident at 96th and Harrison Thursday morning as Jose J. Gil-Rodriguez, 60. The man injured is Luis Hernandez, 34.

The crash happened shortly before 5 a.m. and shut down traffic through the intersection for three-and-a-half hours. It was reopened at 8:30.

According to police, Hernandez was westbound on Harrison in a Toyota RAV 4 and ran the red light at the intersection. The SUV crashed into the driver's side of a Volkswagen Jetta driven southbound on 96th by Gil-Rodriguez.

The two drivers were the only people in the vehicles. Both were taken to metro hospitals. Gil-Rodriguez was pronounced dead on arrival. Hernandez is being treated for cuts and abrasions to his left leg.
