CHADRON, Neb. (KNEP) - An investigation is underway involving what may have been a hazing incident this past weekend allegedly involving members of the Chadron State College wrestling team.

In a letter from the President's office to CSC students and staff sent late Wednesday, and obtained by NBC Nebraska, Dr. Randy Rhine says "I am disappointed to report to you that Chadron State College has been made aware of an off-campus incident last Saturday involving an alleged initiation rite between student-athletes belonging to the wrestling team." The letter says the College informed Chadron Police, and in a phone call Thursday morning, NBC Nebraska was able to confirm that a law enforcement investigation is underway.

Rhine continues in the letter, saying the type of alleged behavior will not be tolerated at the school. "Appropriate disciplinary action will be imposed on the students involved if they are found to be at fault", says Rhine. " These actions violate team rules, Chadron State College and Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees policies, and potentially Nebraska State Law."

The CSC President concludes the letter by challenging students and employees to "take a firm stance on maintaining a campus culture built on respect, leadership and dignity", and to report any similar future incidents to his office or that of the Vice President.
