LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - An investigation is underway after a car was found in a northeast Lincoln creek.

Lincoln Police were called to Ballard Park in Havelock, just before 4:20 a.m. Wednesday after someone reported a car upside down in the creek.

When officers arrived on scene, no one was inside the car, the keys were in the ignition, and a child's car safety seat had been removed.

Police attempted to contact the owner a short time later at her address, but she was not home at the time.

A short time later, the owner contacted police and said her vehicle had been stolen on New Year's Day.

An investigation is still ongoing regarding how the vehicle ended up in the creek.
