Cattle takes over the Interstate

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Traffic is back to normal after a cattle truck rolled over at the I-80 and I-680 interchange in Omaha.

The truck trailer rolled over in the eastbound lanes shortly after 10 p.m. sending approximately a dozen animals aboard tumbling to the turf and shutting down the interstate for more than two hours.

The cattle wandered the crash scene. At least one was hit by a vehicle. The driver of the car was not hurt.

Another animal was put down by a police officer.

Police teamed up with the Humane Society to round up the wayward survivors and get them aboard a new truck. The Mounted Patrol offered horseback help in getting them corralled.

The traffic jam this caused had frustrated drivers looking for escape routes. Some crossed the median, driving the wrong way down the interstate in search of a clear path.

Police are still investigating what caused the accident.
