OMAHA, Neb. -- A 5-year-old child has died in the hospital after being critically injured in a traffic accident on Interstate-80 early Tuesday morning.

Cameron Philpott suffered a serious head injury in the crash on eastbound 80 near 72nd Street around 5:15 a.m.

Cory Phillips, 28, of Omaha, was at the wheel of the Honda Accord in which Cameron was a passenger.

The child was in the rear of the vehicle, secured in an approved child seat.

A semi driven by Vitalii Zadorozhnyi, 31, of Irvine Calif. was traveling behind the Honda. Police say the Honda spun out on the icy road and was rear-ended by the semi.

Neither driver was injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
