LEXINGTON, Neb. A Cozad woman who stole $46,000 from a county church was sentenced to three years probation.

In Dawson County District Court, Candice Hasbrouck, 34, had been convicted of felony theft by unlawful taking.

Hasbrouck was originally charged after funds went missing from the bank account of St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Dawson County, near Cozad.

Hasbrouck had been the treasurer at the church since 2009, and money started missing in 2013.

Earlier this year, the church put in more detailed accounting practices and noticed a pattern of missing funds.

A professional audit later showed that $46,109 had been missing.
