LINCOLN, Neb. – An early morning fire on New Year's Day significantly damaged a home in Lincoln.
A little after 2 a.m. Monday, crews were called to a house near 9th and G Streets.
Lincoln Fire and Rescue said the home is a total loss.
Multiple crews were on the scene and H to F streets were closed off.
Fire Inspector Rick Campos said the home was vacant and it's possible a transient was inside starting small fires to stay warm.
Campos said the house is currently too dangerous to go inside, which is making it difficult to collect evidence and investigate.
Officials said the fire is most likely due to arson and police are working on finding who the last person in the house was.
