Fire destroys building at Wilderness Nature Camp | Ruled an arson

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) -- Lincoln Police said a fire at Wilderness Park Day Camp on Halloween in Lincoln has been ruled as an arson.

Witnesses told police that a transient individual had possibly been in the building before the time of the fire, but police haven't contacted anyone specifically regarding the incident.

The camp supervisor said the building is a total loss.

"I was very frustrated, disappointed - this is a magical place. The camp building is only a building, but it's where we hold our summer camp every year and we have 100s of kids who just delight in enjoying this place," said Andrea Faas, the Pioneers Park Nature Center Coordinator.

Fire Inspector Rick Campos said the fire caused about $60,000 in damage to the building and everything inside.

"The park was using the day camp building for storage," Campos said. "There have been some recent vandalisms out there and this was a continuation of taking it one step further."
