GERING, Neb. (KNEP) - Gering school district officials are getting closer to final details on the high school expansion project.

Superintendent Bob Hastings says 75% of construction documents for the $24-million project are complete, and along with Hausmann Construction, bidding by contractors for various portions of the project will soon be underway.

Hastings says opening of bids is slated for mid-February, with a groundbreaking and start of work anticipated some time in mid-March.

Construction on the kitchen, commons area and a secured entrance near the gym will be among the first project components of the facility upgrade and expansion. As with the construction project at Scottsbluff High School, the project for Gering High will also be done in stages in an effort to minimize disruption for students and staff.
