Former GI police officer pleads not guilty to assault charge

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - A former Grand Island Police officer says he's not guilty of assaulting a woman earlier this fall.

Michael Lyon, 31, is charged with misdemeanor third degree assault in connection with the October 30 assault reported by a 26-year-old Grand Island woman.

If convicted, Lyon could get up to a year in prison. He's pleaded not guilty to the charge.

On November 6, the Grand Island Police Department received information about the alleged assault about former officer Lyon.

According to Grand Island Police, the incident allegedly occurred at a Grand Island residence on Oct. 30.

Police said the event did not occur while the officer was on duty.

Lyon's next court date is in January.
