HASTINGS, Neb. (KOLN) -- Hastings Police said a 72-year-old man died following what appears to be a physical altercation Tuesday afternoon.

Captain Brian Hessler said police responded to an unresponsive male in the 200 block of North Bellevue around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Once on scene, officers tried to resuscitate the man.

After not finding success, police turned the live-saving efforts over to Hastings Fire and Ambulance Service that had arrived on scene.

They rushed the victim to Mary Lanning Healthcare, where he eventually died.

Hours later, police arrested 57-year-old Benjamin Beebe for third degree assault by mutual consent.

HPD is working in conjunction with the Adams County Attorney's Office for this investigation, which they say is still ongoing.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
