Hebron woman killed in van vs. truck crash

FAIRBURY, Neb. (KOLN) - The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said a 20-year-old woman died in a van and semi-truck crash Wednesday afternoon.

The 911 call came in around 2:50pm for a two vehicle crash west of Fairbury on Highway 136.

When emergency crews responded to the scene, they found the minivan and semi-truck in the ditch. Sheriff Nels Sorensen said in a press release 20-year-old Samantha Hoffman, of Hebron, was driving the van, while Fritz Tridle, of Ogallala, was driving the semi-truck.

Sorensen said Hoffman was driving east on Hwy. 136, while Tridle was going west. Hoffman crossed the center line hitting the left front corner of the truck, continuing into the driving axles. Sorensen said Hoffman died at the scene, the van sustained massive damage to the front end. She was not wearing a seatbelt. Tridle was wearing a seatbelt.

Emergency services responding to the crash was Jefferson County Ambulance, Fairbury Rural Fire, Fairbury City Fire, Jefferson County Rescue, Nebraska State Patrol, Nebraska Game and Parks, and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
