Aurora police believe a man suspected in a Monday high-speed chase in Merrick and Hamilton counties has stolen another vehicle and is still at large.

Jared Thomas Smith is being sought by authorities. They believe he was involved in a pursuit in Aurora on July 10, and is wanted in Colorado for a parole violation and sexual contact, non-consent.

Police believe that Smith may be driving a stolen silver Dodge Dakota Club Cab pickup, with a Nebraska plate 28-898S.

The suspect was last known to be heading toward the Lincoln or Omaha area.

The high-speed chase began on Monday in Hamilton County and reached Merrick County on Highway 14 before it was called off.

Both the Hamilton County and Merrick County Sheriff's Offices confirmed a police pursuit took place around 7 p.m. Monday, but by 7:25 p.m., police had called off the pursuit.

The Merrick County Sheriff's Office says they recovered the vehicle involved in the chase.

Aurora police told NBC Nebraska that they believe the suspect stole the second vehicle on Tuesday morning.

This is a developing story.
