High-speed pursuit ends in crash in Omaha

A high-speed pursuit ended with a crash in Omaha after shots were fired and the suspect was injured.

Investigators said the pursuit began when an OPD Gang Unit Operation officer attempted a traffic stop. Police say the officer struggled with the suspect and shots were fired.

The suspect fled the scene and was followed by Able One southbound on Highway 75. Speeds topped 80 miles per hour during the chase. The suspect eventually crashed in the area of Highway 75 and L Street, where he was placed into custody.

The suspect was taken to an Omaha hospital with injuries. The officer involved in the traffic stop was also transported to a hospital for a non-gun related injury.

Police have closed down JFK south of I-80. North Freeway at Lake Street is also closed as officers search for evidence. Police ask that drivers avoid the area as they investigate two major scene. They are not sure when the it will reopen.
