SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - An investigation is underway following an accident at Western Sugar that left a contract worker with severe burn injuries.

According to Heather Luther, Director of Media Relations for Western Sugar, a worker from Rocky Mountain Specialty Services was cleaning an evaporator unit at the Scottsbluff factory around 6:30 p.m. Friday evening when the worker suffered hot liquid burns.

The worker was transported to Regional West Medical Center, then transferred to an undisclosed hospital in Colorado. Luther says for the privacy of the worker involved, she could not release the name of the worker or the hospital.

Luther says the company started an investigation over the weekend into the cause and to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The company notified the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and filed their initial report.

Luther says the company's thoughts and prayers are with the worker and their relatives.
