Kearney man faces trial in underage rape case

KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - A January trial is scheduled for a Kearney man accused of sexually assaulting an underage girl after giving her drugs.

Dana Mitchel, 24, is charged with first degree sexual assault, giving cocaine and marijuana to a minor, and child abuse, all felonies. He's also charged with misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The felony charges carry a combined penalty of more than 150 years in prison.

Prosecutors said Mitchel gave the girl cocaine and marijuana and then assaulted her over the July 4th weekend in 2016.

His trial is scheduled January 16, 2018.
