LSO warns of jury duty scam

LANCASTER COUNTY, Neb. – The Lancaster County Sherriff’s Office is warning of a circulating scam, which features the caller posing as a member of the Lancaster County Civil Division.

Authorities said that a victim reported Wednesday that they received a call from someone claiming to be from the Lancaster County Civil Division, and that the victim had failed to report to jury duty.

The scammer told the victim that they had to go to CVS and purchase two $500 Green Dot Cards, to pay the $900 fine.

The scammer told the victim that after the purchase, to call back and give the validation numbers from the Green Dot Cards.

The victim did not fall for the scam, but instead took it to their attorney, who turned it over to police.

Authorities proceeded to call and talk to the scammer, but the scammer hung up when they realized it was an LSO deputy.

LSO called back, and the voicemail also identified the scammer as someone from the Lancaster County Civil Division.

LSO also said the scammer is using names from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s website.
