Lance's Journal: A Garden With Heart, Oct. 16, 2017

Jan Wilhelm has been wanting to create a memorial cancer garden for quite some time.

In fact, this lifelong gardener was hoping to break ground 7 years ago, but she could just never get it off the ground.

Back in December, Jan was finally moved into action, "I landscaped something in my mind and I put it on paper and showed to my husband. He says, 'No, don't do it, it's not gonna work, it's gonna cost too much.'"

Jan gave up on turning her garden dream a reality. Until that is, she heard a voice from above, "Someone told me, 'Jan get up, in two months, springs going to be here and if you don't start today, it's not gonna happen,' and I believe it was God."

Jan has received a wide variety of donations from many businesses and there have been many hard-working volunteers join Jan working on the garden.

Jan invites anyone and everyone to come down to Humboldt and feel the love in her wonderful garden and if you'd like to put a family name on one of the bricks that will be used in the walkway around the garden go to the Southeast Nebraska Memorial Cancer Garden facebook page.
